Main Ingredients
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup milk (optional)
- 1 large apple peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
- 1 pinch salt
1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt.
2. Stir in the steel cut oats. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Add the chopped apple, ground cinnamon, and brown sugar (if using). Continue to cook for another 5 minutes, until the apples are tender.
4. If using milk, stir it in during the last few minutes of cooking.
5. Serve hot, garnished with additional cinnamon or brown sugar if desired.
